Why I chose this profession
After graduating from Miami University, I started my career as a corporate banker in Chicago. The bank’s formal training program, followed by front line experience and MBA coursework at Northwestern University (and later Northeastern) provided amazing intellectual growth opportunities. While I enjoyed my colleagues and the rigor of analyzing corporate financials, I was uninspired. I doubted that my hard work made any real difference in the world. Discovering personal financial planning was a eureka moment. I saw how the strategic and analytical skills I had honed could be applied to make a difference in the lives of real people. I completed the CFP certification, joined a private wealth management firm in Boston, and knew I had found my true professional calling. Every day since then, I am grateful for the privilege of helping people manage their financial lives. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing clients live with joy, purpose, and confidence in pursuing and achieving their life and legacy goals. I believe that a healthy and secure financial life is essential for overall health and happiness.
Outside of work, my passions include
Time with family, including my little red dog Toby, running, yoga, Broadway musicals, English Premier League soccer, and playing on the white sand beaches of the Florida Panhandle.
One goal I am planning for
A family trip to South Korea to visit my son Colin (also a Miami alum) who’s been living and teaching in Asia.
The ways I am advancing my career knowledge
The Japanese word “kaizen” sums up my obsession with continuous improvement. I read, research, attend classes and seminars, and discuss emerging best practices with peers constantly. To capture the most progressive thinking on personal economics, I interact with experts beyond conventional financial planning disciplines, such as career coaches, financial therapists, actuaries, and wellness specialists. Money crosses into every aspect of life.
One thing I am doing in my community
I am honored to serve as a trustee on the Ohio Police & Fire Pension Board, under an appointment by Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel. It is a privilege to support the financial wellbeing of "first responders" who put their lives on the line for public safety. Locally, I work with public libraries, high schools, and the Sixth District Educational Compact (a consortium of Ohio public schools) to teach essential money skills that prepare young people for being the “CFO” of their own lives.
